My name is Cyrus Epler. One of my main interests has been economics. It has been through my study of economics that I became a firm believer in human freedom. I greatly admire the men who founded America and the ideals embodied in the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution. I strongly believe that freedom is a fundamental necessity for human progress. For us all to fulfill our potential, we must be free to pursue our dreams. I am not a trained economist. My studies have been on my own.
I have read many books on economics. My intention with this website is to distill different topics into short and easily understood articles to help laymen get a firm understanding of economics. There is a lot of misinformation out there. There are competing schools of thought that all call themselves Economics. But many of those schools of thought have been discredited and belong in the dustbin of history, right in the trash along with Communism and Kenesian economics. The economists that have helped me the most to get a firm understanding are F. A. Hayek and Ludwig von Mises. Murray Rothbard is a firebrand of liberty and a good economist. Milton Friedman was a fine economist and a leader of the Chicago school of economics.
If you want an excellent grounding in economic theory, try reading Human Action by Ludvig von Mises. Be warned, however, it is not easy going. I consider myself pretty well read with a good vocabulary but if you don't know what praxeology or epistemology are then get an unabridged dictionary and be prepared to use it! Here is a good source for the book:
If von Mises seems like a bit to much to chew for your first attempt (it actually was my first attempt at reading economics!), try the classic from F. A. Hayek, The Road to Serfdom.
If these seem a little to academic for your tastes, I highly recommend a surprisingly good read and a pretty good statement of the virtues freedom from a possibly surprising source. I don't agree with everything he says, but I would definitely defend to the death his right to say it and to say it loud and proud, Ted Nugent. He has written his manifesto, and a man (or woman) could do much worse then living life like the Nuge. Get his book Ted, White, and Blue. (My review)You won't be disappointed. Use this link:
